What is the difference between a bilingual and a monolingual?

First, we had already talked about the benefits of being bilingual. If you still don’t know, I invite you to read the blog called ¨ Do you know what happens when you speak a second language? ¨

Now that you know how a bilingual brain works, let’s talk about the difference if you speak more than two languages, the scientists have discovered that: there are some functional differences between a monolingual and a bilingual.

Let´s learn some aspects where a bilingual performs better than a monolingual

1.Bilinguals have more working memory capacity than monolinguals a better reserve from words learned in a short time because are more exposed to more difficult conversational situations than monolinguals.

2.Bilinguals have a greater capacity to adopt the perspective of others because can analyze better the target language used at the moment with a situational capacity more than a monolingual

3.A bilingual brain has a better cognitive capacity in short words gets older in better conditions.

Three aspects in which a monolingual performs better than a bilingual

1. A monolingual can understand better the differences between the languages spoke because can find weaknesses and strengths than can use them to improve the comprehending of them, mean than a monolingual search and use strategies and tools that can help it to remember and apply in different situations presented in the learning language.

2. A monolingual has a larger vocabulary than a bilingual because can remember more quickly the vocabulary between the languages that’s mean that a monolingual search and choose the word from the languages knew and can remember from even other languages with the purpose to remember the target word. it is an easier way to remember words like a neuron that need more neurons and connections with other to work better same way works the vocabulary from a monolingual connects words with others.

3. A monolingual speaks more nimbly than a bilingual because the bilingual needs more time to find the word that should use.

Something then is clear is that speak more than one language does not have any cognitive disadvantage
